Parody Flag Series 1979 - 1981
M.F.A Thesis Exhibition, State University of New York, 1980.
“In the early 1980’s America was consumed with fervour and frustration in the Iranian hostage crisis. Flags were everywhere. As a part of my M.F.A. program, research of contemporary art in the great museums of north-eastern America was occurring and these two experiences fused.
I speculated how selected artists would paint this US flag today, (chosen on an homage basis) and the final presentation is intended to parody nationalism.”
A selection of this series was shown at a Woodstock Gallery, New York and in Newcastle, Hunter Valley and Solander Galleries, Canberra.
