Plan and Elevation Series 1990 - 1992
“The perceptual viewpoint series evolved from a visit to the island of Saipan, south of Japan, which was the site from which Japan was bombed with atomic weaponry near the end of World War II.
Over twenty-five thousand casualties were inflicted on this tiny island with human bones still being washed up onto the beaches. Various visual possibilities come from this project, which focuses on tensions between opposites and spatial ambiguity. The severe environmental pollution as the subject matter is presented as plan-elevation views of Tinian Island, a landscape drastically changed by time and the intervention of mankind.”
